'Sweet Tea' for adults

My girlfriend said to me "I have this metal sign for my beach house that someone gave to me.  I was wondering if you could do your thing & put it on a big, old, red piece of wood for me.
It says 'Sweet Tea' on it (that's the name of their beach house, & that's where its headed ...)

"Oh, of course.  I would love too" I said.  It will be a fun little summer project, and I just love this friend.  So, great, everybody wins !

I found this perfect salvaged pine cabinet door in the Outer Banks at The Vintage Bodega Show and hauled it home in March.  It was still chilly then, and I was just never feelin' it, so the old door hung out in the garage until one warm day when I went to town, painted it red then distressed it.
Then my buddy dropped off the sign.  Well, she never told me it was a Sweet Tea Vodka sign.  As I said to her, "that changes the ball game for me."  I was kinda picturing a sweeter side of Tea, this is the funner side of Tea.  Different Vibe.  This is not a kitchen sign, this sign is headed to the downstairs Rumpus Room bar sign.  Got it, Cool!

I stuck the metal bar sign on the board.  Blah.  It needed ... well, knobs maybe ?  Everybody screws knobs onto old boards ...  I drank a cold beer (it was hot like I said above), and thought about it, and stared at the plain sign.  Then I stuck a beer cap on the board.  Better!   I was going to fashion some knobs out of beer caps, but then thought better of that wild notion (but will probably return to that one at a later date, I still really like that idea) ...
So with the one beer cap I thought "We can start a Guest List of Caps!"  We can just keep added cool caps.  So fun for the beach.  Your always thirsty at the beach :)
This is going to a rental beach house, and I am darn sure the guests have a few cold ones while at the beach.  My kids loved collecting beer caps from their Daddy & Uncles - so we made a little deposit basket to collect guests caps in.  It will be an ongoing memory board of fun times had while staying at "Sweet Tea".  All it takes to continue the 'cap art' is a hammer and small nails. My girlfriend can fill the whole thing if she likes, or just pick the coolest caps to display.
A craft anyone can do ~ even after having a few too many Sweet Teas {wink}.
Cheers!

Thank You Apartment Therapy !

You never know what you may find when you decide to Google yourself!
I found that the nice folks at Apartment Therapy had found one of my pieces and wrote a nice, little article about it.
Surprise !
The author of the article does a nicer job describing my work than me, so without further ado...

Kristina, the pretty blue Hepplewhite redo

Vintage Dixie Dressers are just perfect.
Wish I had a million of them, all lined up, and ready for different colors !
This girl sold in a skinny minute.

Lining of at least the top drawers is a must for me.  Little niceties go a long way in my book.

This job allows me to entertain my split personalities.
Clean, preppy sorority girl, or roughed up, down home, rebel child.
On any given day,  I love them all.
On Kristina's makeover day, I was feeling clean.

Who says Ice Skates should have all the fun ?

I am the lucky member in our family that is gifted everyone's stuff.
Some of the heirlooms I receive are truly treasures of crystal, silver and gold.  Some of the stuff is not.
Like, my brother-in-laws old high school football cleats.  Oh wow, gee whiz, thanks guys ?

Inspired by the season, and all the charming remakes on the good ole ice skate, I had to ask myself "Why do ice skates get all the love ?  Why not those twenty year old cleats in the garage?"

My solution & interpretation of the classic ice skate holiday decor.
Now, we have a prized heirloom for sure!
Maybe this is why I am gifted the stuff treasure...
Know anywhere I can get more dirty white cleats ?
I have since given them back to their original owner.
All gussied up.

Really, who says you can't ?

Annie Sloan Tour Pictures are worth 1000 Words

I hope my little video does a better job of telling the story of my day at The Annie Sloan Workshop better than my written words.
It was a great way to spend my day, and become even more inspired by amazing ladies & one great guy from Virginia Beach  ; )

Sentimental Childhood Desk

My girlfriend still has her childhood desk.  I am so proud of her for never parting with it.  But, it has signs of a life well lived that my buddy would rather not see.  So, she called me.

Little Desk Before
Yes, there are battlescars.  Think, the Velveteen Rabbit.  Very well loved.
 Ta Da ~ After
I used Annie Sloan Old White with just clear wax
Painting the inside of drawers is fun and beautiful.
The knobs (jewlery) make the little desk sparkle again.  I LOVE these knobs !
My gorgeous buddy is also my neighbor, good friend and talented mommy who designed my Lucky Logo.  Thank you Yolanda for being so amazing and trusting me with a bit of your past !
